Building a Bridge to Safety

What We Do

Our Mission

Merciful Neighbor provides a steady hand and a quiet refuge for those facing mistreatment or abuse within the home. Our mission is to provide truthful information and practical help to families and individuals in crisis, ensuring that no neighbor is left to walk the difficult road of healing alone.
To fulfill this mission, we focus on three paths of service:
- Sharing Knowledge:
We provide clear, plain-language information about the different types of harm and the rights of every person to live in peace.
- Building Bridges:
We connect those in need with "Merciful Neighbors"—trusted men and women, professionals, and safe spaces—who can offer immediate help.
- Ensuring Safety:
We offer guidance on how to find protection and how the law can act as a shield for the vulnerable, all while respecting the privacy and values of our community.

Why We Are Here

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

Our name, Merciful Neighbor, is taken from the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). In that story, a man was beaten, robbed, and left for dead by the side of the road. While others passed by on the other side, the Samaritan stopped. He did not ask how the man got there or whose fault it was; he simply saw a neighbor in pain and chose to act. He tended to the man's wounds and brought him to a place of safety where he could heal.
In our own communities, there are those who have been hurt, mistreated, and left broken—not by strangers on a road, but often behind their own front doors. We believe that we are called to be like the Samaritan.

Our Commitment to Privacy

Keeping Your Story Safe

We understand that in our small circles, news travels fast. We believe that your story belongs to you alone, and keeping your confidence is a matter of both safety and honor.
Your Secret is Safe:
We will never share your name or your situation with your Bishop, your ministers, your family, or your neighbors unless you explicitly ask us to do so.
A Shield of Silence:
Our "Merciful Neighbors" are trained to act with discretion. We do not gossip, and we do not disclose who is seeking our help.
In Times of Great Danger: If there is an immediate threat to your life or the life of a child, we will only share the barest information necessary with emergency helpers to ensure everyone is brought to safety.

Your trust is a gift we do not take lightly. We are here to be a quiet refuge, not a source of talk.
